Who is YMC Capital

YMC Capital sits between the bulge-bracket firms that won't take the call and the law firms that bill without accountability — senior advisory, structuring, and managed capital for sophisticated situations that don't fit either side.

YMC Capital is built for sophisticated situations that need senior attention end-to-end — advice, structure, and, when it fits, capital we manage alongside yours.

Every engagement is anchored in two things: judgement earned across two decades of workouts, recoveries, and structuring; and a commitment to stay in the position until it's resolved.

The type of work is determined by the situation. Sometimes we engage as an advisor and you hold the position throughout. Sometimes we run the mandate inside one of our regulated vehicles.

What we do

We help clients think through the problem, structure opportunities, and decide where capital should sit.

  • Workouts. Distressed positions, broken joint ventures, defaulted credits, stuck LP interests, recoveries against difficult counterparties. Two decades of this work, mostly in Asia and the US.
  • Defense. When a counterparty, creditor, or opponent is coming at you, we plan the response and run it day-to-day — coordinating counsel, driving the timeline, and staying in the room until the position is resolved.
  • Structuring. SPVs, segregated portfolio companies, fund formation, side-letter design. Getting capital into the right vehicle, built right the first time.
  • Capital strategy. Where money should sit, how the vehicle should be built, which counterparties make sense and which don't. We've sat on every side of that table.
  • First-time managers. Standing up the vehicle, terms, allocator fit, infrastructure — the operational ground experience teaches.
  • Advice that travels. Sometimes the deliverable is a memo, an introduction, or a half-hour conversation that saves a year. We're glad to do that when it's useful.

How we engage

Compensation lines up with outcomes. Some engagements run on a fee, some on a share of the recovery or upside we help create, some on nothing — a client wants a second look on a deal, that's a call we're happy to take.  We are here to build long-term relationships. We always agree the shape up front so both sides know what success looks like.

The engagement shape is yours to choose: advice on a position you hold yourself, a discretionary mandate we manage on your behalf, or a split between the two. We propose what fits.

Who we're for

People with real assets, real problems, or real opportunities who want a partner who stays with the position.

That includes founders sorting out a cap table, family office or companies working through a difficult investment, operators standing up their first fund, and allocators who want a sober second voice before they commit.

The relationship is built around being useful — real attention, plain language, and decisions made together.

Why we built this

Complexity doesn't scale with balance-sheet size. A $5m position can carry the same structural problem — workouts, cross-border vehicles, recoveries — as one ten or even one hundred times larger, but it sits below the threshold where the large firms can't justify putting in the time that complex situations actually need.

YMC was built to bring senior, partner-level work to that space, with the continuity to see positions through.

The honest floor

We're small by choice. We take on work where we can do it well and stay long enough to finish. We tell clients what we think before they commit, and we keep telling them after. Workouts take time. Recoveries don't always recover. Lawyers can't fix an underlying weakness. We say so up front.

That's the firm.
